Hideo Kojima and George Miller Announced for Sydney Film Festival

The Mad Max maestro and Metal Gear Solid mastermind are coming together to chat life, the universe, and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Creative visionaries and, by all accounts, good mates Hideo Kojima and George Miller have joined the guest line up for the 2025 Sydney Film Festival.

The video game guru and the man behind Mad Max and something about penguins will get together for a one off special event titled, appropriately enough, Hideo Kojima and George Miller in Conversation on Saturday, June 14.

The occasion is the imminent release of Kojima’s latest game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which Hideo is out on the stump for. Releasing on PS5 on June 26, the sequel to the acclaimed 2019 post-apocalyptic head-scratcher once again stars The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus as courier Sam Porter Bridges, with Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker back as Fragile and Higgs, too. Check out the rather lengthy trailer if you’ve got a spare 10 minutes up your sleeve:

Joining them will be a host of new characters, including Elle Fanning’s Tomorrow, Shioli Kutsuna’s Rainy, and Luca Marinelli’s Neil. We’re also getting cameos from a bunch of folks normally found on the other side of the camera, including Turkish-German director Fatih Akin (In the Fade) as Dollman; Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) as Heartman; and, most relevant to the matter at hand. George Miller as Tarman. check him out:

But on June 14 the two will be talking “…shared creative ground, the evolution of cinematic storytelling in gaming, and the surprising role Miller himself plays in Death Stranding 2.” The game, it turns out, is set in Australia, and if anyone knows a thing or two about post-apocalyptic Australia, it’s Dr. Miller. And while we’re at it, the game’s very title is a reference to another apocalyptic Aussie classic.

This is one of those once-in-a-lifetime meeting-of-minds deals that don’t come along too often, so it might be worth moving on tickets sooner rather than later. I certainly am.

The 72nd Sydney Film Festival runs from June 4 – 15. Hit up the official site for tickets and info.
