Tourism Tasmania is offering you the chance to party with mini goats at a bush doof on a tiny farm in Penguin. No, seriously.
This winter, Tasmania wants you to trade your doona for the moshpit with one of their ‘Winternships’ – it just so happens the rest of the pit is populated by mini goats.
Tourism Tasmania has launched its latest campaign with 10 weird and wonderful ‘Winternships’ designed to help Aussies lean into the cold. Among them: an invitation to party at a bush doof with miniature goats.
Located in the town of Penguin, the Goat Doofer Winternship will drop one lucky punter into a tiny farmlet for one of the most uniquely Tasmanian experiences on offer. The job? Keep the goats in check, help set the mood for the party, and dance through the night with DJ Brad under the stars. Think bleats and beats, all in the name of becoming a “winter person.”
The Goat Doofer is just one of ten Winternship roles on offer. Others include babysitting Tasmanian devils, skippering a floating sauna, or learning to make whisky at Australia’s southernmost distillery. The gigs are quirky, hands-on, and designed to showcase what Tassie winter is all about: getting stuck in, getting out there, and celebrating the season instead of dreading it.
Tourism Tasmania says the campaign is a response to research showing that nearly 70 per cent of Australians wish winter away, and only a third consider themselves “winter people.” These Winternships aim to shift that mindset by dropping participants into the heart of the state’s offbeat, cold-loving culture.
Successful applicants will have their travel to Tasmania covered, accommodation, and the full Winternship experience. They’ll also head home with a haul of seasonal produce and local goods, handpicked by their hosts.
Applications are open from May 27 to June 17 via the Discover Tasmania website. All you need is 50 words or less explaining why you want to become a winter person with a Winternship.
If you’ve ever wanted to rave with goats and call it character development, this is your moment.
