Watch My Chemical Romance Play The Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’

Watch My Chemical Romance ace their cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ track ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings.

My Chemical Romance surprised fans in San Francisco last night by pulling out a cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ 1995 single ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’ mid-set. And, wouldn’t you know it, vocalist Gerard Way can pull off a killer Billy Corgan impression.

The emo giants have just kicked off their ‘Long Live The Black Parade‘ tour, celebrating 20 years of their iconic 2006 album The Black Parade. The band will be playing the entire album in full, as well as some other classics from their extensive discography. But who’s to say they won’t pull out some surprises like last night?

What isn’t a surprise is that the band knocks the cover out of the park. You can check out their cover below.

My Chemical Romance’s current tour is also being opened by hyper-pop duo 100 Gecs. Which may seem weird, but makes perfect sense if you think about it. 100 Gecs are even selling some iconic merch, with one shirt reading: “She My my Chemical ’til I Romance then I 100 Gecs”. Iconic. You can be sure that this is one concert you’ll see people capturing the whole thing on a Nintendo DS.

Other acts, such as IDLES, Pixies, Alice Cooper, Evanescence, and more, have all been tapped for opening support slots on this tour. With lineups like this, you can be sure that 2014-era Tumblr is clamouring to fill these arenas.

Just last week, My Chemical Romance began teasing new music on their social media. On July 19th, they dropped “Over Fields” by The National Anthem of Draag. It’s unclear whether this is setting up a new concept album or is intended for the current tour. My assumption is that this is accompanying media for the tour, unfortunately.

However, the release of new music could explain some setlist changes. Or, maybe Gerard Way really did feel like the world was a vampire that day. It’s tough being an MCR fan waiting for new music.

While no official Aussie tour has been announced, some speculate we could expect some news next year. A man can dream.
