Mélancolia Push Their Blackened Nu-Metal Vision Further With New Single ‘Picking Scabs’

Mélancolia have unveiled their third single ‘Picking Scabs’ from their upcoming album random.access.misery.

Melbourne’s blackened nu-metal disruptors Mélancolia have dropped their third single, ‘Picking Scabs’, the latest preview of their upcoming album random.access.misery. The record lands Friday August 29 via Greyscale Records and Nuclear Blast, with the band’s national headline tour kicking off the following month.

Hot off the road with Thy Art Is Murder, where they wrapped a 17-date national run, Mélancolia are showing no signs of slowing down. ‘Picking Scabs’ charges deeper into the hybrid territory of nu-metal, deathcore and metalcore, with scathing vocals, DJ scratches, ethereal textures and sample work influenced by the likes of $uicideboy$.

‘Picking Scabs’ follows on from the band’s recent singles ‘ALL_IS_RUST’ and ‘SPIT!’, the latter featuring guest vocals from DREGG’s Chris Mackertich. These tracks mark a new chapter for Mélancolia, with expanded vocal dynamics and a clear intent to write songs designed for live detonation (and oh boy, do they go incredibly hard live).

The band have racked up serious mileage since forming in 2022. Off the back of their debut album HissThroughRottenTeeth, Mélancolia have toured with Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, Vulvodynia, Ingested and more, breaking into Europe and the UK on multiple occasions.

They’re also set to bring their unrelenting live show across Australia this September on the access.all.misery headline tour.

Mélancolia are doubling down on their mission to shake up heavy music. “We are bringing a fresh sound to an otherwise stale scene, you will not hear what we are doing from anyone else,” they said.
