Toys coming to life, kids in danger, parental neglect – this might traumatise a generation.
My best mate’s kid is obsessed with Five Nights At Freddy’s. The games, I mean, and there seem to be at least a hundred of them. He’s 10, so he’s smack bang in the middle of the target audience. And yet I’m not allowed to show him Predator for reasons I don’t fully comprehend. Anyone, check in with your nearest 10 year old – there’s a fair chance they’re excited about Five Nights At Freddy’s 2. Based on a sample size of one.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Trailer
Jesus Christ.
I want to reiterate, I’m not allowed to show this kid Predator, but this is fine.
What’s the plot?
As noted above, this is adapted from the wildly popular horror game franchise and follows on, obviously enough, from 2023’s Five Nights At Freddy’s.
The gist is essentially “What if Chuck E. Cheese was haunted?” with Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza being a non-copyright-infringing version of the famous animatronic-packed fast food franchise. The twist here is that the puppet mascots are possessed by the spirits of murdered children, which is nicely creepy. Last time out they terrorised security guard Mike Schmidt, his little sister Abby, and and friendly cop Vanessa, and given they’re all back for the sequel, we can assume we’ll be getting more of the same here.
Who’s in it?
- Josh Hutcherson as security guard Mike Schmidt.
- Elizabeth Lail as local police officer Vanessa Shelly.
- Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Mike’s younger sister and a creepy kid in the “Carol-Ann from Poltergeist” mold.
- Beloved genre veteran Matthew Lillard as William Afton, a serial killer and Vanessa’s father. Pretty sure he was killed in the last film, but ghosts are real here, so…
- Theodus Crane as Jeremiah, Mike’s former work buddy.
- The Littlest Scream Queen, Mckenna Grace, as a paranormal investigator.
- Teo Briones as Alex, also a paranormal investigator.
- Freddy Carter as a security guard at Freddy’s, and probably doomed.
- Wayne Knight. We don’t know who he’s playing, but it’s always good to see Wayne Knight.
When’s it out?
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 hits Australian cinemas on December 5 2025.
What’s the vibe?
While Five Nights At Freddy’s was pretty roundly pilloried by the critical fraternity, there’s something about creepy puppets that puts the hook in, isn’t there? It’s a very primal fear – the slumped shape in the closet at night, the teddy bear come to malevolent life. It just plucks at a deep-running nerve. And with Chuck E. Cheese expanding to Australia this year, the cross-promotional possibilities are endless.
