Deftones will run exclusive listening parties for private music in twelve cities before its official release this Friday – including Sydney and Melbourne.
Deftones are preparing fans for the arrival of their new album private music with a run of global listening parties just days before its official release on August 22 – and if you’re in Melbourne or Sydney, you can sign up for the chance to head along.
The events are being staged in collaboration with Pitchblack Playback, an organization known for immersive listening experiences. Attendees will hear Private Music in complete darkness through a “premiere sound system”, designed to strip away all distractions and focus entirely on the music.
Twelve major cities will host the Deftones listening parties, though it’s unclear if additional dates will be added. The schedule begins August 19 in Amsterdam and Mexico City, continues August 20 in Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, New York City, Sacramento, Sydney, Toronto, and Vancouver, and wraps on August 21 in Berlin and Paris.
If you’re keen to be in with a chance to head along and be among the first to hear new Deftones, you can sign up here.

A note on the sign-up page makes it clear that Deftones members will not be in attendance, so you won’t be able to stand next to Chino in total darkness this time round – sorry, folks.
private music is Deftones’ first new record since 2020’s Ohms, and marks the recording debut of bassist and vocalist Fred Sabian, who replaced Sergio Vega after his 2022 departure. Fans have already had a taste of the upcoming album with the release of its lead single, as well as ‘milk of the madonna,’ signalling a new chapter for the Sacramento band.
For those eager to experience private music ahead of release day, sign-ups for the listening parties are open now – but probably not for long.
