Atreyu continue to tease either their breakup, or new music with another cryptic social media post – this time with an obituary notice and remembrance event set for Wednesday.
Atreyu are revelling in whipping up fan theories at the moment – after posting a black tile captioned “R.I.P.” with no additional context on Friday (as well as deleting all old posts on Instagram), they’re back at it again with another cryptic message.
The new post made to both Instagram and Facebook includes an image that reads: “the obituary notice of Atreyu. 27 years young.”
Meanwhile, the post caption reads: “Family and friends, please join us in remembrance on September 17th at midnight. click the link in bio to attend.”
The link in their bio, atreyuisdead.com, opens to a website titled “is Atreyu dead?” It then asks fans to RSVP to their “remembrance,” which is set to start at midnight on the 17th September. It’s not clear exactly what timezone this is in, or it it’s perhaps 12am local time across the globe. Notably, the band is set to play at the Louder Than Life music festival in Louisville, Kentucky on Thursday, September 18.
It’s still not 100% clear what exactly Atreyu is planning here. On one hand, the wording is pretty suggestive of an impending breakup – maybe with a final album or tour. On the other hand, it looks like they’re leaning into the confusion pretty heavily given the website title, and the midnight 17 September “remembrance” date is very much giving new music vibes – perhaps the ‘death’ of the old Atreyu as they enter a new era.
Whatever the case may be, if you’re keen to find out what they’re cooking up (or about to tear down), make sure to RSVP on their site, and stay tuned on Wednesday for more.
