Harry Potter Is Back On The Australian Streaming Charts

Share

Chris Columbus is having a big week, though.

We are, as you no doubt know, getting a brand spankin’ new Harry Potter TV series from HBO soonish, an ongoing event I only report on from time to time to spit venom at the various ostensibly progressive actors who have pledged their blunt swords to the Moldy TERF Queen’s banner. That explains why the first film, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, has crept onto the Top 10 Streaming Movies leaderboard, albeit at the bottom – as the great engine of publicity groans to hellish life, folks are checking out the original film series.

Ideally, a whole bunch of people are reminding themselves that, despite its box office biffo, the first Harry Potter flick isn’t very good. It’s probably too much to ask that they realise that making the bloody thing a season long will not improve it in any way, but I can hope.

What’s funny, though, is that the director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Christopher Columbus, has also taken the top slot, with Netflix‘s cozy mystery, The Thursday Murder Club, coming in at number one. Everything else this week is about as you’d expect, although the sudden appearance of Unknown Number: The High School Catfish at number eight may be of interest (not to me, you understand, but you do you).

On the TV side of the ledger, HBO‘s gritty crime drama Task, which sees Mark Ruffalo heading up an FBI team tracking down a vicious home invader, is number one, with The Office spin-off The Paper at number two for those who want a little less grit in their TV diet. Campy thriller The Girlfriend has found its fans, while familiar titles fill out the rest of the rankings. Nice to see Slow Horses at number 10, almost certainly the result of certain people realising they really should get around to watching Gary Oldman’s acclaimed workaday espionage series before the new season starts (it’s me; I am certain people).
