Radiohead performed at the Movistar Arena last night in Madrid, marking the start of their limited European tour and their first time on the road in over seven years. Here’s everything they played during the show.
Well Radiohead fans, after seven long years of waiting, the legendary rock band have officially played their first show together at the MoviStar Arena in Madrid.
Despite the significant gap between tour, it’s still been an eventful seven years for all membersband.
Thom Yorke has gone on to have a prolific solo career, which saw him release the short film, Anima, on Netflix, directed by One Battle After Another‘s Paul Thomas Anderson. He’d also launch his own side project, The Smile, which would feature fellow Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner and have since released three albums together.
Members Ed O’Brien and Phillip Selway would also release solo albums, while Colin Greenwood would publish a photography book, How To Disappear: A Photographic Portrait of Radiohead, and would tour as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds bass player in 2023.
Despite the gap in releases, Radiohead’s popularity has only grown over time, with several tracks surging in popularity. Their track ‘Let Down’, which featured at the end of FX’s The Bear‘s first season, has gone on to become a viral hit, and has become their fourth ever track to land on Billboard’s top 100 chart claiming the 91st spot.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Yorke would reveal that he fought “tooth and nail” to keep the song off their celebrated record, OK Computer. Guitarist Ed O’Brien, however, threatened to quit the band if it was excluded. O’Brien would call the song the “emotional heart” of but OK Computer admitted, “Still, I was astonished. So I told my kids, who are 18 and 21, and they said, ‘What do you expect? Teenagers are depressed. It’s depressing music!’”
So, with demand for a Radiohead tour ever-growing and with the band’s deeper cuts gaining new life in the mainstream, the highly anticipated setlist for their first tour in seven years was front of mind for all when the band eventually announced they would be returning to the stage.
