AC/DC Shock Melbourne, Play ‘Jailbreak’ Live For The First Time Since 1991

Share

It finally happened. AC/DC cracked open the vault tonight at the MCG and tore into ‘Jailbreak’ for the first time since 1991, sending 80,000 fans into complete disbelief.

For most of the crowd, it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, the return of a track that hasn’t been seen on an AC/DC setlist in more than three decades.

The band hit the stage around 8.30pm following sets from The Casanovas and Amyl & The Sniffers. Early in the night, it looked like business as usual with the familiar run of hits – ‘If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)’, ‘Back in Black’, ‘Thunderstruck’, ‘Hells Bells’, ‘Highway to Hell’ – all delivered with the precision and power expected from one of the tightest live acts on the planet. But when the opening riff of ‘Jailbreak’ rang out, the entire stadium reacted instantly. It was the sort of moment that reminded everyone why this band still matters: a legacy act that continues to find new ways to connect across generations.

The last known live performance of ‘Jailbreak’ was during AC/DC’s 1991 world tour, captured on the Live at Donington concert film. The song is a cornerstone of the Bon Scott era and a defining chapter in Australian rock history. Its return in Melbourne, the city where the band first made its name, carried genuine weight. Across social media, fans described the moment as “electric,” with many calling it the highlight of the night.
