Skate Story Is A Brand New Stylish Skating Game For Those Wanting More Story With Their Kickflips

Share

Skate Story continues 2025’s stacked year of skateboarding games, giving fans of the genre an all-new, stylish and narrative-focused experience to close out the year.

If you thought 2025 had enough of skateboarding games, oh, you’d be mistaken. American indie developer Sam Eng and Digital Devolver have just launched their all-new aptly named narrative-based skateboarding game, Skate Story, for gamers who are looking for a more stylish and focused experience.

In Skate Story, you play as a demon made of glass and pain who has found themselves in a unique deal with The Devil himself: skate to the Moon and swallow it, and you shall be freed from your pact.

Throughout the game, you’ll ollie, kickflip, and grind your way through the Underworld all the way to the Moon itself. You’ll be tasked with figuring out how to master your weight and motion throughout intricate, fast-paced levels with a bright, futuristic aesthetic.

Of course, gamers fond of the skateboarding genre are spoiled for choice right now after Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4‘s Remaster and the live-service Skate game released earlier this year. If you find yourself keen on an experience built around a tight narrative instead of the free-skating experience the previously mentioned games offer, then Skate Story might be for you.

You can check out a trailer for the game below:

Reviews seem mostly positive on the game as well, with ScreenHub contributor James O’Connor giving the game four stars, writing “While the game may have peaks and valleys, the best moments in Skate Story are some of the greatest moments you’ll ever find in any skateboarding videogame.”

Skate Story also features a complete soundtrack from the experimental indie pop group Blood Cultures, featuring a nice mix of pretty synth ambient tracks and fast-paced beat-heavy tracks to match your momentum in-game. As any skater fan would know, music is just as important as gameplay, and Skate Story hasn’t forgotten that part of the equation.

You can listen to the soundtrack from Blood Cultures in full on YouTube if you’re looking for something to replace your usual lo-fi study beats playlist.

Skate Story is available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch 2.
