War Of The Worlds Named Worst Film Of 2025

Share

War Of The Worlds, a screenlife take on the HG Wells classic starring a deskbound Ice Cube, has been named the worst film of 2025 by Metacritic

War Of The Worlds sucks ass. That’s the 2025 version, mind you. It sucks so bad that I didn’t bother to review it after watching it in my own spare time, sacrificing precious seconds of my life only to realise that even if I slated it, some poor fool might check it out, thinking something along the lines of “C’mon now – how bad could it really be?” Can’t have that on my conscience, no sir.

But the answer to that hypothetical question is “Pretty goddamn bad” – at least according to the good folks at Metacritic, who have released their list of the worst films of 2025. There’s no malice involved – well, not as much as there is in a personally curated list – as their roster of wretchedness is put together fairly dispassionately. To wit:

This page contains Metacritic’s official list of the 15 worst-reviewed films released in the United States between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025. Films are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades given by top professional critics) prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 4 reviews are excluded.

And as you’ve no doubt guessed by now, War Of The Worlds has taken out the not-exactly-coveted number one spot. Written by Kenneth A. Golde and Marc Hyman and directed by Rich Lee, War Of the Worlds quickly gained notoriety as one of the worst movies ever made, scoring 6/100 on Metacritic and only 4% on fellow review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. And frankly, those scores are generous.

Other notable entries this year include Smurfs, which I dimly recall getting a release, Netflix‘s mega-budget sci-fi wet fart The Electric State, the Rebel Wilson vehicle Bride Hard, and the Nicolas Cage Western, Gunslingers. You can read the lot here.
