Stranger Things Get Review Bombed As Idiots Are Somehow Shocked That Will Byers Is Gay

Share

FFS, they’ve been setting this up for ages. Get a grip.

Stranger Things is almost done and dusted, with the final episode of the long-running (too long-running, really) dark fantasy series hitting Netflix at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Or New Year’s Day, depending on your point of view.

Still, reviews from both professional critics (like yr obt svt) and viewers have been pretty positive, if not hitting the heights of Stranger Things‘ prior series. Until, that is, Season 5’s penultimate episode, “The Bridge.” Written by series creators Matt and Ross Duffer, who also co-directed with Shawn Levy, this is episode where poor, put-upon Will Byers (Noah Schapp) fiiiiiiinally comes out as gay to his friends and family – something the series has been setting up for absolute yonks.

Following the episode, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes plummeted to 56%, while over on IMDB the score for the audience is a record low 5.4/10. To give you a basis for comparison, the rest of the season ranges from 7.9 to 9.4 at the time of writing – that’s a hell of a drop off. And it’s clear from social media commentary it’s a backlash against the confirmation of Will’s sexuality.

“Woke ruins EVERYTHING…” wrote one specimen whose interests include CHRIST, SPORTZ, and CULTURE according to his bio, but not spelling or watching the previous four seasons. “Netflix decided to RUIN their most popular show of all-time, Stranger Things, by focusing their final season on Will coming out as a homosexual, promoting the propaganda that Will’s superpowers are because he’s “embraced his sexuality” & the villain telling Will that his friends won’t like him if they find out he likes dudes…”

Weirdly, although that guy has posted aa staggering 23 times about Stranger Things since “The Bridge” dropped, he didn’t make a peep when Maya Hawke‘s Robin Buckley came out as a lesbian back in season 3, not to mention all the times she’s been extremely gay this season. Hmm.

And, of course, none other than Elon Musk, who really shouldn’t be casting aspersions on other people’s sexual preferences given the rumours about the state of his dick, felt the need to weigh in, because of course he did.

It is incredible to me that this idiot claims to be a fan of Iain M. Banks’ Culture novels, where people can change their sexual wiring as easily as they change their socks. Talk about basic.
