Melbourne heavy-rock/punk outfit Internet Romance are officially stepping out of the underground and into the spotlight with their debut single ‘My Dog’s A Liar’, a sharp, chaotic, tongue-in-cheek blast of post-punk energy that feels equal parts unhinged and intentional.
Premiering today on Blunt, ‘My Dog’s A Liar’ is exactly the kind of debut that makes its intentions clear from the jump. Drums hit hard and fast, bass rumbles thick underneath, and guitars slash through the mix with a nervy, jagged edge. Over the top of it all, the vocals swing between sneer and snarl, delivering absurdist, deadpan lines about a dog who simply cannot be trusted. It’s a simple premise that quickly becomes something stranger, louder, and more confrontational the longer it plays out.
There’s a real sense of repetition and momentum in the writing, with punchy motifs looping back on themselves until they become impossible to shake. It’s raw without being sloppy, funny without becoming a novelty, and heavy without leaning into cliché. For a first release, it sounds remarkably sure of itself.
The track was recorded and produced by Callan Orr at Avalanche Studios, and it captures the same volatile energy that has already earned Internet Romance a reputation as one of Melbourne’s more unpredictable live acts. Over spring 2025, the four-piece have been tearing through the local circuit, picking up support slots at The Evelyn Hotel, Bendigo Hotel, Bad Decisions Bar, and Creatures Bar. Each show has helped solidify their reputation for chaotic, high-energy sets that feel like they could derail at any second, in the best possible way.
Looking ahead, Internet Romance are not slowing down. Plans are already locked in for a follow-up single, music videos, regional shows, more Melbourne dates, and the eventual release of their debut EP in 2026. It’s a steady rollout, but one that feels built for longevity rather than quick hype.
‘My Dog’s A Liar’ lands on all streaming platforms this Monday, 12 January, with the band celebrating the release at their first headline show, My Dog’s A Liar – Single Launch, at The Workers Club, Fitzroy on Friday, 16 January 2026. They’ll be joined by Serious Crew, The Toranas, and Lipstick Grenade.
