Mark Ruffalo Is On Chris Hemsworth’s Trail In The Crime 101 Trailer

Share

A dogged cop, a professional thief, a woman caught in the middle – yep, that sounds like Crime 101.

One paper, the ingredients of Crime 101 seem a bit generic – there’s a cool, professional crim, a determined detective on his trail, one last big job on the line, and an innocent (ish) woman dragged into the whole mess.

But a few things make it worth your attention. One is the cast – Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Nick Nolte, Corey Hawkins, and more. Another is that it’s written and directed by Bart Layton, who gave us the incredible The Imposter in 2012 and American Animals in 2018. And the third is that it’s based on a novella by the great Don Winslow, hands down one of the best crime writers currently going. So my interest has been well and truly piqued.

What’s the plot?

As the official synopsis tells us:

Set against the sun-bleached grit of Los Angeles, Crime 101 weaves the tale of an elusive jewel thief (Chris Hemsworth) whose string of heists along the 101 freeway have mystified police. When he eyes the score of a lifetime, his path crosses that of a disillusioned insurance broker (Halle Berry) who is facing her own crossroads. Convinced he has found a pattern, a relentless detective (Mark Ruffalo) is closing in, raising the stakes even higher. As the heist approaches, the line between hunter and hunted begins to blur, and all three are faced with life-defining choices–and the realization that there can be no turning back.

What’s the vibe?

I dig it, and dads and bachelor uncles the world ’round will likely dig it, too. Whether that demographic moves the needle much at the box office is a whole different conversation, though. If it did, we’d be up to our fourth Master and Commander by now.
