Evil Dead 7 Begins Filming This Month

Evil Dead 6 hasn’t even been released yet, but the seventh instalment is good to go.

It looks like we’re going to be getting Evil Dead movies on the reg going forward. The sixth film in the beloved horror series inaugurated by the great Sam Raimi way back in the day is Evil Dead Burn, which wrapped production in New Zealand under director Sébastien Vaniček in October and is due to hit cinemas in July. But now comes the news that the seventh film, provisionally titled Evil Dead: Wrath, is starting principal photography this month.

You can thank the eagle-eyed pundits over at Coming Soon for this scoop. They spotted a filing on The Screen Industry Guild of Aotearoa New Zealand Incorporated website that gives the title and notes that production will begin in Auckland in February, although no exact date is given. This makes it the fourth Evil Dead flick to lens in New Zealand. The Ash Vs Evil Dead TV series also shot there, as I can personally attest to.

That was a pretty good day.

What I can’t say is what Evil Dead: Wrath is about, because there are absolutely no details out in the wild. We do know that Francis Galluppi, who gave us the 2023 neo-Western thriller The Last Stop In Yuma County, is writing and directing, with Charlotte Hope, Jessica McNamee, Zach Gilford, Josh Helman, Ella Newton, Ella Oliphant, and Elizabeth Cullen set to star. At a guess, it’s likely to be a stand alone entry into the franchise rather than a direct sequel, much like Lee Cronin‘s excellent Evil Dead Rise.

Then again, we don’t know much about the imminent Evil Dead Burn, either, except that it stars Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Tandi Wright, and George Pullar. It could be that the sixth film leads directly into the seventh, although the lack of cast crossover suggest otherwise. Guess we’ll find out in July.
