Drew Pavlou Claims He Was Deported From US Over Billie Eilish ‘Joke’

Share

Australian activist Drew Pavlou claims he was deported from the United States after spending 30 hours in immigration detention at LAX, alleging his online stunt targeting Billie Eilish triggered intervention from US authorities.

The Brisbane born figure said he was questioned by the Department of Homeland Security after publicly announcing plans to “move into” Eilish’s Los Angeles mansion (per news.com.au).

The campaign followed the singer’s remarks at the 68th Grammy Awards, where she said “no one is illegal on stolen land” while accepting an award for environmental justice.

Pavlou framed his proposal as satire, but said US officials did not see it that way:

“Billie Eilish got me deported from the US – I think her legal team contacted DHS,” the 26 year old said.

“I spent 30 hours at LAX immigration trying to explain that my sh*t posts were just a joke and that I didn’t actually plan to personally move into her mansion.

“Honestly most of the agents were nice and laughed at the idea but there was nothing I could do, maybe evil leftists are still in charge of sections of the bureaucracy.

“I guess some people are in fact actually illegal on stolen land. And I guess I am just a BAD GUY …”

Misunderstood

Pavlou had previously told media he would not do “anything illegal” and intended to leave immediately if asked.

“I’ll ring the doorbell, and if they tell me to leave, I’ll leave straight away because I don’t want to get in trouble.”

He has also described himself as “one of the most misunderstood theorists/artists of the 21st century”.

Eilish has not publicly responded to Pavlou’s claims.

Pavlou first rose to prominence during protests in support of Hong Kong’s 2019 democracy movement while studying at the University of Queensland, in recent years he has aligned himself with American conservative circles and frequently generates headlines through online stunts and political commentary.

At this stage, there is no official confirmation from US authorities regarding the reason for his reported deportation.
