Former Journey singer Steve Perry has shut down rumours circulating online that he’ll be rejoining his old band on stage for their farewell tour.
For some Journey fans, it’s time to stop believin’ as frontman Steve Perry has denied the viral rumours of a reunion on stage during the band’s farewell tour.
The singer would share a statement online, writing:
“While I’m always grateful for the love people still have for Journey, the rumours about me rejoining the band are simply not true, and I want to gently put them to rest,” Perry said.
“I completely understand why people would hope for that. The music we created together means a great deal to me too. But I’m continuing to explore new creative work and really enjoy working on new music that reflects where I am today.”
The rumour mill started circulating after keyboardist Jonathan Cain told Ultimate Classic Rock that Perry had been approached to join the band for a night if he’d like: “Neal [Schon, guitarist] already asked, and he says [Perry’s] thinking about it. I hope he comes out. It’s never too late. We’ve got 100 shows, so he’s welcome at any one of them. He didn’t say no – leave it at that.”
Perry would join Journey in 1977, recording hit tracks like ‘Don’t Stop Believin’, ‘Any Way You Want It,’ and ‘Open Arms’ before leaving in 1987. He’d rejoin in 1995 for a brief period, only to be forced to depart the band yet again by a hip injury.
Journey would eventually find its new frontman, Arnel Pineda, in 2007 after he was discovered performing covers with the Filipino band Zoo.
Perry would attend the bands Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2017, although did not perform with the band during the event.
Journey’s Final Frontier Tour 2026 is set to kick off in February, with 60 dates scheduled in North American arenas until July. Guitarist Neal Schon has confirmed a second leg of the tour will run into 2027, giving fans ample opportunity to catch them for their final hurrah.
