Get A Look At Reacher’s Alan Ritchson In Sci-Fi Actioner War Machine

Share

Alan Ritchson takes on aliens in Netflix’s upcoming action extravaganza.

If I had a dollar for every time an Australian director made a Netflix movie titled War Machine, I’d have two dollars. Which ain’t much, but it’s weird that it happened twice. First, Animal Kingdom director David Michôd gave us the military satire War Machine with Brad Pitt back in 2017. Now we’re getting another War Machine, this time from Red Hill and The Hitman’s Bodyguard director Patrick Hughes. Shall we take a gander?

What’s the plot?

All we know is that “During the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection, an elite team’s training exercise turns into a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat.” Looking at the clip above, that unimaginable threat is a giant honking alien robot – presumably the war machine of the title. But here’s the thing: it’s up against the Vanilla Gorilla himself, Alan Ritchson, who you’ve doubtless enjoyed watching beat the living piss out of the bad guys on Amazon’s Reacher. So, my money’s on the humans.

Who’s in it?

  • Alan Ritchson
  • Dennis Quaid
  • Stephan James
  • Jai Courtney
  • Esai Morales
  • Keiynan Lonsdale
  • Daniel Webber
  • Jake Ryan
  • Blake Richardson
  • Jack Patten
  • Jacob Hohua
  • Alex King
  • Joshua Diaz
  • Will Curtis
  • Jarryd Goundrey
  • Thomas Evans

When’s it out?

War Machine hits Netflix on March 6.

What’s the vibe?

Hard to say at this point. Netflix’s action flicks are wildly variable in quality; for every absolute banger like, say, Timo Tjahjanto’s The Night Comes For Us, there’s a half dozen duds filling up the back blocks of Netflix’s library. But Ritchson’s always a good time, and him and Hughes seem to like working together – they’re already penciled in to make a biopic of US Navy SEAL Michael E. Thornton, who won a Medal Of Honour for his exploits in Vietnam.
