North Carolina indie rock band Wednesday are heading back to Australia, locking in Melbourne and Sydney shows this May and June as part of their latest international run.
Presented by Mistletone, Wednesday will perform two nights at Melbourne’s Rising Festival before closing out the visit with a headline show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre, for Australian fans who caught the band during their first trip down under in 2024, the news feels like a quick but welcome return.
Riding the momentum of ‘Bleeds’
Wednesday arrive back in Australia with serious momentum behind them, the band’s latest album ‘Bleeds’ landed across multiple year end lists in 2025 and pushed the North Carolina outfit further into the global indie spotlight.
Led by songwriter Karly Hartzman, Wednesday have carved out a distinctive lane where ragged guitar noise collides with country storytelling and small town imagery, one minute you’re drifting through jangling indie melodies, the next you’re knee deep in distortion and Southern gothic confessionals.
Where ‘Rat Saw God’ introduced the band to a wider audience, ‘Bleeds’ sharpened their identity, the record leans into Hartzman’s writing instincts, balancing rough edged rock with vivid snapshots of everyday life.
Tracks like ‘Elderberry Wine’ and ‘Townies’ show how the band can pivot between tenderness and bitterness without losing their grip on the story.

A live show built on chaos and heart
If the studio work hits hard, Wednesday’s live shows hit harder.
Australian crowds already got a taste during the band’s 2024 visit, which included festival stops at Golden Plains, MONA FOMA and Perth Festival, alongside packed club gigs, the performances felt loose and unpredictable, but always locked into the emotional core of Hartzman’s lyrics.
Since then, the band have continued building their reputation on international stages, a recent sold out show at London’s Roundhouse, with a capacity of 3,000, saw UK critics praising the group’s gritty, guitar heavy approach to modern indie rock.
With Rising Festival appearances locked in and a Sydney headline show on the schedule, Wednesday’s return should give local fans another chance to experience the band at full volume.
Local support acts Alien Nosejob, Season 2, and Naaki Soul will join the run.
