Melbourne nu metalcore outfit Bad Juju have stepped into a new chapter, signing with UK label Easy Life Records and unveiling a crushing new single titled ‘The Weight Of Water’.
The track marks Bad Juju’s first release through the label, which is also home to artists including Softcult, Normandie and Lonely The Brave, produced alongside Chris Lalic of Windwaker, the single continues the sonic evolution Bad Juju began exploring on their recent EP ‘Simulacra’.
Built around a bouncing but heavy riff, ‘The Weight Of Water’ leans hard into the band’s mix of nu metal groove, alternative rock atmosphere and bursts of hardcore intensity. The result feels both nostalgic and modern, carrying the kind of weight that sits comfortably beside the band’s previous material while pushing their sound forward.

A Confrontational New Track
For vocalist Russell Holland, the song’s emotional core sits just as heavily as the guitars (per press release).
“The Weight of Water is the band’s heaviest release to date. The lyrics confront the end of a long-term friendship, where bad behaviour was ignored until the illusion finally cracked. As the ‘high’ wears off, you see the truth, cut the deadweight, and walk away. It’s raw, confrontational, and unapologetic, capturing the moment denial ends and self-preservation takes over.”

The track continues Bad Juju’s approach of pairing dark melodic hooks with aggressive instrumentation, sitting somewhere between introspective alternative rock and the punch of modern metalcore.
Building Momentum
Bad Juju have steadily built their presence in Australia’s heavy scene through relentless touring and a sound that moves comfortably between genres.
They’ve previously shared stages with LANDMVRKS, Loathe, Movements, Boston Manor, Touché Amoré, and Teenage Wrist, reflecting the band’s ability to slot into both heavy and alternative lineups.
Their 2024 EP ‘Simulacra’ marked a turning point, pushing the band toward bigger production and sharper songwriting while maintaining their signature mix of atmosphere and aggression. Tracks like ‘Simulacra’, ‘Incision (Cut You Out)’, and ‘Honey’ hinted at the darker, heavier direction the band are now leaning into.
With a new label backing them and fresh music landing, ‘The Weight Of Water’ feels like the opening statement of Bad Juju’s next phase.
