Sublime are stepping into a new era without pretending the past didn’t happen.
Long Beach trio Sublime have announced their first full length album in nearly three decades, ‘Until The Sun Explodes’, arriving June 12th, with Jakob Nowell officially taking the mic once held by his father, Bradley Nowell.
The title track, also out now, doesn’t shy away from that weight. It leans straight into it.

A legacy carried, not replaced
There’s always been a line you don’t cross with Sublime, Bradley’s voice, that loose, sunburnt mix of punk and reggae, isn’t something you swap out and move on from. Jakob knows that, and he addresses it head on:
“The last Sublime record that will ever be made is Self-Titled. There’s no replacing history, period. Until the Sun Explodes the album is an epilogue, and ‘Until the Sun Explodes’ the single is the epilogue to the epilogue. It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime, it is an acknowledgment for all that my father has done for me my entire life, and most importantly it is a thank you. I love you dad, and I owe you my life.”
It’s a heavy statement, but it lands, this isn’t a reboot but something closer to a continuation with full awareness of what came before.
The album pulls in names like H.R. of Bad Brains, Fletcher Dragge of Pennywise, G Love and Skegss, keeping one foot in Sublime’s original orbit while opening things up just enough to avoid feeling like a museum piece.
