Charlize Theron Gets Wolf Creeked In The Apex Trailer

Share

Taron Egerton is an outback psycho hunting Charlize Theron’s adventurer in Netflix’s Apex.

I love a solid, stripped down survival thriller. There’s a purity to them; the stakes are clear, the peril ever-present, the scenery generally spectacular. The scenery in Apex, Netflix‘s upcoming nail biter, was captured in the Blue Mountains in early 2025, so I got the unusual pleasure of watching Taron Egerton chase Charlize Theron through ravines and gullies I’ve actually walked. But that odd moment of bisociation aside, this looks an enjoyably tense way to pass a Friday evening.

What’s the plot?

As the official synopsis tells us:

“A grieving woman testing her limits in the Australian wilderness is suddenly ensnared in a deadly game with a ruthless predator.”

And it’s pretty clear that’s all the set up we really need. Everything else is bells and whistles.

Who’s in it?

Charlize Theron is Sasha, while Taron Egerton is the redneck psycho stalking her through the bush, and Eric Bana turns up as her partner at some point, but given she’s “grieving” as per the synopsis, I suspect he’ll be on flashback duties. You know, with the South African Theron doing an American accent, and the English Egerton offering a pretty decent Strine, it would be funny as hell if they made the none-more-Australian Bana attempt an accent, too. Russian, maybe.

When’s it out?

Apex premieres on Netflix on April 23.

What’s the vibe?

Hell, I’m keen – this kind of ballast-free, elemental drama is right up my alley, and this looks like it’s going to be almost a two-hander. It also helps that Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur is calling the shots. Kormákur’s been quietly belting out rock solid genre pieces for ages now; 2015’s Everest seems like the obvious point of comparison, but 2013’s 2 Guns is an underappreciated gem. I’ll pretty much show up for anything he turns his hand to.
