‘Scream 8’ Confirmed As Franchise Pushes Forward After Record Breaking ‘Scream 7’

Ghostface isn’t going quiet anytime soon, with Scream 7 smashing franchise records at the global box office, Spyglass is already gearing up for the next round, confirming that Scream 8 is officially in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lilla and Nora Zuckerman have been locked in to write the eighth instalment. The sibling duo, best known for steering Poker Face, bring a background that leans heavily into sharp dialogue and layered storytelling, which could signal a slightly different edge for the next film.

Their credits stretch across Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Suits, Fringe and Prodigal Son, so they’re no strangers to balancing character work with genre tension, that matters because Scream has always walked a tightrope between satire and straight up horror, and getting that tone right is half the battle.

Riding the high of ‘Scream 7’

The announcement lands off the back of ‘Scream 7’ pulling in over $220 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing entry in the franchise so far, not bad for a series that started as a meta jab at slasher clichés and somehow became one of the genre’s most durable names.

The latest film saw creator Kevin Williamson step into the director’s chair, bringing Neve Campbell back as Sidney Prescott after her absence in Scream VI, the story pushed the legacy forward, with Ghostface targeting Sidney and her teenage daughter.

It’s a move that felt less like nostalgia bait and more like a deliberate attempt to stretch the franchise into a new generation, whether that momentum carries into Scream 8 will depend on how far they’re willing to evolve the formula.

Rumours become reality

Talk of another sequel started almost immediately after Scream 7 hit cinemas, actor Anna Camp previously downplayed the chatter, saying, “Just rumors, just rumors. I haven’t heard from anyone specifically that I worked with, like Kevin or Neve but I’ve heard the rumors going around that there’s a Scream 8,”

Now those whispers have turned into something concrete.

There’s no confirmed cast or release window yet, and Spyglass is keeping details tight, but with new writers stepping in and the franchise riding its biggest commercial wave to date, it’s clear this isn’t just another sequel for the sake of it.

Ghostface is still evolving, the only real question is who’s next behind the mask?
