Peter Dinklage Joins Alien: Earth Season 2

Game Of Thrones and The Toxic Avenger star Peter Dinklage has signed on for Noah Hawley’s superb sci-fi/horror series.

Good news! Alien: Earth is 100% getting a second series, as we learned back in November. That’s not always guaranteed in the current streaming environment no matter what your numbers and reviews look like – and Alien: Earth’s were very good. And now comes even more good news – Peter Dinklage, who has been kicking ass for ages now, will continue to do so. However, those asses will now be extra-terrestrial as Deadline is reporting that the Game Of Thrones star is joining the series. As who? No idea as yet.

But we do know that season one cast members Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver are expected to return, although that hasn’t been confirmed yet. Principal photography is scheduled to kick off May at London’s Pinewood Studios, which is, of course, where the original movie was shot, along with Alien 3 and Prometheus. That’s a nice bit of symmetry.

Created by Fargo‘s Noah Hawley, Alien: Earth is set in 2120 – two years before Alien and 16 years after Alien: Covenant. When the deep space research vessel USCSS Maginot crashes on Earth with a cargo full of dangerous extra-terrestrial critters, it kicks off a conflict between rival corporations for the valuable biological specimens it contains. Sydney Chandler plays Wendy, a “hybrid” created by uploading the mind of dying child into a synthetic body, who is dispatched with her fellow hybrids to investigate as a kind of field test of their capabilities.

Those capabilities turned out to be more formidable than anyone expected, as the first season ended on a hell of cliffhanger as Wendy and her surviving comrades turned the tables on their human masters. Where the second season goes is anyone’s guess, but the addition of Peter Dinklage strongly suggests it’ll be somewhere pretty cool.
