Local Highlight: Broken Earth Command Burdekin Hotel With Crushing Sydney Set

Share

Sydney’s heavy scene was out in force on Saturday, May 16th, as the Burdekin Hotel once again proved why it remains one of the city’s most reliable homes for modern metal.

Packing out quickly ahead of a stacked lineup featuring Banks Arcade, Harroway and Sydney’s own Broken Earth, the Oxford Street venue was buzzing well before the first note rang out, but when Broken Earth stepped onto the stage, the energy in the room shifted immediately.

There was no slow build or tentative opener, from the moment they appeared, the local outfit carried themselves with the kind of confidence usually reserved for bands much further along in their journey, the room was theirs from the outset, and they made sure everyone knew it.

Delivering a set packed with precision, intensity and total command, Broken Earth showcased exactly why they’ve become one of Sydney’s most exciting names in heavy music, their performance struck that rare balance between technical sharpness and raw, untamed force, every breakdown landing with weight, every transition executed with purpose.

Already generating serious attention following its release, the track hit even harder in the live setting, its crushing dynamics and razor-edged delivery connected instantly with the packed crowd, who responded with the kind of energy that made it clear the song is already carving out its place as a fan favourite.

More than just another local support slot, Broken Earth did more than just warm up the room, they made it their own, delivering the kind of commanding set that leaves no doubt about where their momentum is heading.

If Saturday night was any indication, Sydney is watching a band rapidly stepping into its next chapter, with Burdekin’s walls shaking and a crowd fully locked in, Broken Earth delivered a reminder that some of the most vital heavy music in the country is being forged right here in Sydney.

Photography from rare backstage access captures the band both onstage and behind the curtain, a glimpse into a night that further cemented Broken Earth as one of the city’s essential heavy acts.
