Bristol’s fast rising nu-gaze wrecking crew Split Chain are back with another gut punch of distortion soaked emotion, unveiling their blistering new single “scatterbrain.”
The track arrives as the latest taste of the band’s expanding sonic universe and doubles as the announcement of motionblur [DELUXE], landing September 11th via Epitaph Records.
Blending shoegaze atmospherics with crushing nu-metal heft, “scatterbrain” is everything that has made Split Chain one of alternative music’s most exciting new names, metallic screams crash into washed out melodic hooks, while pulverising drums and massive riffs deliver the kind of emotional whiplash that feels tailor made for fans raised on Deftones, Superheaven and Basement.
Lyrically, the track digs deep into fractured relationships and emotional disconnection.

“Like all of our other music, ‘scatterbrain’ comes from personal experiences growing up that we’re sure everyone can relate with to some degree,” the band shared.
“It’s a song about the slow degradation of friendships, relationships and family ties… leaving the other person with nothing but feelings of abandonment, unrequited love and questions.”
It’s a heavy theme, but one delivered with the kind of raw sincerity that’s quickly become Split Chain’s trademark.
Alongside the single, the band confirmed a deluxe reworking of their acclaimed debut motionblur, featuring fresh reinterpretations of album tracks with some of alternative music’s most exciting rising names.
Collaborators include London hardcore outfit False Reality and Las Vegas’ Roman Candle, with more guests still to be revealed:
“we are so, so proud of what we created with ‘motionblur,’ and we wanted to come up with a way to celebrate it all over again,” the band explained.
Since forming in 2023, Split Chain’s ascent has been absurdly fast, they’ve signed to Epitaph, dropped their debut LP and spent the better part of a year tearing through Europe, North America and Australia.
Now, they’re finally bringing motionblur home with a long overdue UK tour.
With “scatterbrain” hitting hard and motionblur [DELUXE] set to expand on an already acclaimed release, Split Chain are proving the hype isn’t just real, it’s getting louder.
