It happened: two generations of middle school emo have collided, and thus, this Earth will never be the same.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of My Chemical Romance‘s iconic The Black Parade, UK alt mag Rock Sound have strung together some of the scene’s biggest and best – think Asking Alexandria, Escape The Fate, State Champs and heaps more – to put their spin on each of the album’s 13 tracks.
By far, the most viscerally stunning of the bunch comes from none other than schizoid pop powerhouse Twenty One Pilots, who took the heart-wrenching “Cancer” and have given it a dark, atmospheric spin flourished with electronic beats and meticulous production that just seeps into your soul. The track is somewhere between a cover and remix, too, with a “new” chorus and revised structure that channels an artificial – though powerful – melancholy.
For those amongst us keen for an IRL TØP fix, Tyler and Josh are set to hit our shores in March for an arena tour spanning Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Here’s hoping this winds up somewhere buried in the setlist (ideally, between “Taxi Cab” and “Anathema”).
