Share

Kottonmouth Kings are officially back in release mode, with the long running rip hop veterans confirming their brand new EP ‘California Burning’ will arrive tomorrow (May 22nd) across all streaming platforms.

The announcement came directly from the band while travelling between tour stops, with the group shouting out the “#kmkfam” for continuing to support the latest era of the band, “New music is banging,” the group wrote online while revealing the release date.

The five track EP marks another major step in the current Kottonmouth Kings revival, following the band’s recent sub label signing with Virgin Music Group.

30 Years and counting

Originally formed in Placentia, California in 1996 by D-Loc and Saint Dog, Kottonmouth Kings built a cult following by blending hip-hop, rap rock, punk, reggae and psychedelic influences into a sound that became synonymous with late ‘90s and early 2000s underground counterculture.

Across decades of lineup changes, the group became one of the most recognisable names in cannabis focused alternative music, building an audience through relentless touring and DIY momentum long before streaming platforms dominated the industry.

The current version of the band features founding member Dustin Miller alongside returning members Taxman (Jeremy Blayne) and Judge D (Daniel Rogers), as well as Chucky Chuck (Charles Devries) and drummer Lou Dog (Lou Gaez).

While the band’s sound has shifted across different eras, ‘California Burning’ looks set to lean back into the heavy rap-rock energy and West Coast attitude that made Kottonmouth Kings such a staple of alternative culture in the first place.
