mgk And Wiz Khalifa Bring Back the Mixtape Era With ‘Blog Era Boyz’

Share

More than a decade after helping define the internet rap boom of the early 2010s, mgk and Wiz Khalifa are throwing it all the way back with their new collaborative mixtape, Blog Era Boyz.

Released today (May 22nd), the nine track project taps directly into the carefree energy that helped launch both artists into mainstream success during the golden age of music blogs, DatPiff downloads and burnt CD playlists (per Billboard).

13 years and counting

The duo first linked up in 2013 on fan favourite track “Mind of a Stoner,” (below) but 2026 has marked a full circle return for the pair, momentum for the tape started building earlier this year with the release of singles “Girl Next Door” and “Everything Tatted,” both leaning heavily into the laidback, smoke filled chemistry fans have associated with the artists for years.

While nostalgia drives the project, the timing also makes sense as Wiz is currently joining mgk on the second leg of the Lost Americana Tour, which kicked off in California on May 15th. The run will continue through cities including Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, Toronto and Vancouver before wrapping in Washington state on July 1st.

The mixtape arrives during another busy chapter for mgk, who has continued pushing deeper into alternative rock territory while still keeping one foot planted firmly in hip-hop. His 2025 album Lost Americana topped the Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart, while recent single “Fix Ur Face” with Fred Durst also made noise on the rock charts.

Meanwhile, Wiz Khalifa has remained one of rap’s most consistent workhorses in 2026, outside of Blog Era Boyz, he’s already contributed to multiple projects this year, including Khaotic, the Moses the Black soundtrack, Girls Love Horses and a collaborative double disc release with Curren$y.

For fans who grew up during the blog era, this tape feels exactly like what it’s supposed to be fun, hazy and unapologetically nostalgic.
