Mastodon have officially entered a new chapter.
The Atlanta metal heavyweights have released their brand new single ‘Your Ghost Again’, marking the band’s first new music since the departure of longtime guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds and the first glimpse of their upcoming ninth studio album.
The arrival of the track carries extra weight for fans, Hinds and Mastodon parted ways in early 2025 following a long and often turbulent relationship, before tragedy struck later that year when the musician died in a motorcycle accident in August (per The PRP).
Mastodon ‘Your Ghost Again’
‘Your Ghost Again’ is expected to serve as the lead single from the band’s next full length release, which has reportedly already been completed. The song sees Mastodon working alongside producer Patrik Berger, whose credits include work with Taylor Swift and Show Me The Body, while Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou also contributed to the production.
The track also offers the first official recorded contributions from Mastodon’s newest members. Guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira are both credited with writing and performance contributions, giving fans an early taste of how the band’s evolving lineup may shape its future sound.
While details surrounding the new album remain under wraps, it appears more announcements are just around the corner.
Tour announcement incoming
Reports circulating online suggest Mastodon are preparing to reveal a major North American headline run this week. Promotional material for a tour reportedly titled The Poisonous Weapons Tour has already surfaced online, with Deafheaven and Alcest expected to join the trek as support acts.
Although an official announcement had yet to arrive at the time of writing, several dates from the proposed run have already begun appearing online, adding further fuel to speculation that a full reveal is imminent.
For now, ‘Your Ghost Again’ offers fans their first look at what Mastodon’s next era could sound like, with a completed album reportedly waiting in the wings and touring plans seemingly ready to be unveiled, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most significant years in the band’s career.
