Billy Morrison and Dexter Holland Unleash Pop-Punk Anthem “Never Gonna Change” Ahead Of Hollow

Share

British guitarist, singer and songwriter Billy Morrison has joined forces with The Offspring frontman Dexter Holland for his latest single, “Never Gonna Change,” delivering a high energy blast of pop-punk ahead of Morrison’s upcoming album Hollow.

Arriving as the latest taste of Hollow, which lands on August 7 via TLG|ZOID and Virgin Music Group, the track leans into soaring hooks, driving guitars and an unapologetically rebellious spirit. It’s a collaboration that feels tailor-made for fans of classic skate-punk while offering a fresh anthem for a new generation.

Lyrically, “Never Gonna Change” explores growing up in a dysfunctional home, embracing youthful defiance and living in the moment without looking back. It’s built around themes that have long been at the heart of punk rock, combining nostalgia with an unmistakably modern energy.

“‘Never Gonna Change’ is one of those perfect pop-punk slices of rebellion that hopefully spans a couple of generational gaps,” says Morrison.

“Teenagers will always feel the same —misunderstood — and Dexter has been one of the most vital voices of teenage angst and rebellion since The Offspring hit the world running in 1984. So when I finished writing this track with Los Angeles-based songwriter Jacob Bunton, it was clear we wanted Dexter to be the voice of the track. Dexter and I recently performed together in Royal Machines, so I dropped him a text and he loved the idea. Thanks to the miracle of modern technology, he was able to record his tracks in the middle of an Offspring tour, and Barry Pointer mixed it all into the killer track we have here.”

For Holland, saying yes to the collaboration didn’t take much convincing (per Sonic Perspectives):

“Billy Morrison has a great track record and is a good guy, so when he sent me ‘Never Gonna Change’ for a collab, it was an immediate ‘I’m in.’ The song is just the right amount of angst, rebellion, and fun. A summer banger if you ask me.”

Alongside the single comes a visually striking lyric video directed by Mike Savage, moving well beyond the traditional static lyric format with a story driven presentation.

“The days of a black screen with white text for a lyric video are way behind us, and Mike Savage is creating killer, story-driven lyric videos which fit this track perfectly,” says Morrison. “It’s an easy, fun way to put some appropriate visuals to the song and get the lyrics out there. Mike did a great job on this one.”

With Hollow due out in August, “Never Gonna Change” offers another glimpse into Morrison’s upcoming record while pairing one of rock’s most respected guitarists with one of pop-punk’s most recognisable voices.
