Five decades after changing rock music forever, the Ramones are set to receive an all-star celebration worthy of their legendary status.

Ramones Productions, Inc. and Hollywood Forever have officially announced The Official Ramones 50th Anniversary Tribute, taking place on August, 30th at the iconic Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.

Hosted by screen legend John Travolta, the event will honour 50 years since the release of the Ramones’ groundbreaking self-titled debut album, leading the night is the debut performance of Cretin Family, a one off punk rock supergroup bringing together Tim Armstrong (Rancid), Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), Travis Barker (Blink-182) and original Ramones bassist CJ Ramone.

The musicians will perform Ramones classics together for the very first time, with additional surprise guests expected to join throughout the evening, the celebration extends beyond live music, with attendees also treated to a special double feature screening of the 50th anniversary edition of Carrie alongside John Travolta’s latest film, Propeller One-Way Night Coach.

Artist Shepard Fairey will also provide a guest DJ set, while proceeds from the event will support David Agus MD Cancer Research at the Ellison Institute.

50 years of rewriting the rules

The Ramones’ 1976 debut rewrote the rules of rock music, stripping songs back to their rawest form, Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee and Tommy Ramone laid the foundations for punk rock with enduring anthems including Blitzkrieg Bop and Judy Is A Punk.

Their influence continues to echo across generations of artists, from underground DIY scenes to mainstream rock and pop, the anniversary event forms part of a broader year long celebration recognising the band’s lasting legacy.

Fans can also look forward to new vinyl reissues arriving this month, including a limited-edition picture disc of the band’s debut album and a coloured 2LP edition of Live at The Roxy, 8/12/76 as part of Rhino’s Spirit of ’76 campaign.

For punk fans, the Hollywood Forever event promises to be one of the biggest Ramones celebrations ever staged, bringing together some of modern punk’s biggest names to honour the band that helped spark a musical revolution that still resonates 50 years later.
