Nickelback have recruited John 5 for ‘Rattle The Cage’, a fast, riff-heavy first hit from their newly announced album, Everything Under The Sun.
Nickelback have tapped Mötley Crüe guitarist John 5 for ‘Rattle The Cage’, the heavy lead single from their newly announced album, Everything Under The Sun.
The Canadian rock giants will release Everything Under The Sun on 30 October 2026 through Virgin Music Group. It marks the band’s first full-length album since Get Rollin’ arrived in 2022, as well as their first release through Virgin.
Nickelback are not bothering with a soft launch. ‘Rattle The Cage’ is fast, loud and built for arenas, pushing pounding riffs and a massive hook to the front.
Then there is John 5.
The Mötley Crüe guitarist gives the track an extra shot of firepower, making the collaboration an immediate heavy music talking point. It is the kind of guest spot that cuts through the usual new album noise before anyone has even reached the chorus.
“This album has every side of the band on it,” Chad Kroeger said. “There are songs that hit as hard as anything we’ve ever done, songs that take chances, and songs that remind us why we’ve been doing this together for so long.”
Kroeger called ‘Rattle The Cage’ the right song to “kick the door open”, adding that it carries the same energy Nickelback have been feeding off during their live shows.
That broader mix appears to be the point of Everything Under The Sun. The album is set to move between heavier cuts, reflective songwriting and the towering choruses Nickelback have spent more than three decades sending around packed arenas.
The announcement follows the success of the band’s Hate to Love: Nickelback documentary and the Get Rollin’ World Tour. According to the band’s team, the latter became the fastest-selling and highest-attended tour of their career.
At this point, nobody needs a Nickelback explainer. You either know exactly what those choruses do to a packed room or you have spent two decades pretending you do not. Either way, putting John 5 on the opening shot is a smart way to make sure people pay attention.
Nickelback last appeared in BLUNT after joining Megan Thee Stallion for a completely cooked Cheetos commercial. This time, the guitars are doing the talking.
