Fat Mike Releases First Solo Score From NOFX Documentary As Australian Cinema Screenings Expand

Share

NOFX co-founder Fat Mike has released “Kids Of The K-Hole,” the first piece of music from the original score for the band’s upcoming career-spanning documentary, 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up.

The instrumental release offers fans an early taste of the soundtrack accompanying the acclaimed documentary, with Fat Mike stepping into new creative territory by composing the score himself alongside collaborator Matt Nasir.

Performed with a full orchestra, the score marks one of the most ambitious musical projects of his career, the full 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up: Soundtrack and Score arrives on August 28th, pairing an 11 track original score with a 15 song soundtrack celebrating four decades of one of punk rock’s most influential bands.

Two unreleased NOFX songs

Alongside the orchestral material, the soundtrack features two previously unreleased NOFX songs, “40 Years of Fuckin’ Up” and “We Did It Our Way,” the latter written as the final NOFX song ever intended to be performed live.

Fans can also expect six rare and unreleased recordings, including demo versions of Secret Society and On The Road, a cover of La Bamba, plus live recordings of fan favourites Linoleum and NOFX.

The deluxe double LP also includes a 24 page retrospective photo book documenting the band’s four decade journey through rare and previously unseen images, complete with original artwork by Tokyo Hiro.

The documentary itself premiered to critical acclaim at SXSW earlier this year and has since screened at major international film events, including the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival marketplace.

Director James Buddy Day says the response has turned each screening into something far bigger than a traditional movie event.

“We made a documentary, but what’s happening in theatres feels bigger than that. Every city has turned into this celebration of NOFX, punk rock, and the people who grew up with the band.”
