Avenged Sevenfold have once again thrown expectations out the window, surprise releasing a brand new four track EP titled STATICA with no advance warning and immediately dividing fans in the process.
Released without teasers or a traditional rollout, Avenged Sevenfold‘s STATICA marks the band’s first collection of new music since 2023’s Life Is But A Dream… and continues the fearless experimentation that has defined the Californian outfit’s recent creative direction.
While 2025 standalone single “Magic” introduced another side of the band through its appearance in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, it isn’t included on the new release, STATICA pushes even further into unfamiliar territory.
Switching things up
Across its four tracks, “LIGHTS”, “STATICA”, “REJOICE” and “ASHES”, the band blends glitchy electronic production, lo-fi textures, hip-hop-inspired vocal treatments and cinematic soundscapes into something that feels worlds away from the metalcore anthems that first made them global stars.

Rather than simply experimenting for experimentation’s sake, STATICA feels like the next logical step following the progressive ambition of The Stage and the genre-defying twists of Life Is But A Dream…. It’s challenging, unpredictable and, perhaps unsurprisingly, one of the band’s most polarising releases to date.
That conversation spilled across social media almost immediately after the EP landed. While some longtime listeners questioned the electronic direction, others defended the release, arguing that Avenged Sevenfold have spent the better part of two decades refusing to repeat themselves. Many fans pointed to the band’s history of reinventing its sound from album to album, suggesting STATICA is simply the latest chapter in that ongoing evolution (per Loudwire).
As their co-headlining North American tour with Good Charlotte began, Avenged Sevenfold debuted the EP in an unconventional fashion. Rather than performing the material from the stage, the band delivered the performance from backstage while the set played across the venue’s giant video screens before Good Charlotte took over.
Whether STATICA ultimately wins over sceptics or remains one of the most divisive releases in the band’s catalogue, one thing is certain: Avenged Sevenfold have never been interested in standing still.
