For more than three decades, Home Alone has remained one of the most beloved Christmas films ever made, and now Macaulay Culkin has reportedly floated an idea that could finally bring Kevin McCallister back to the big screen.
According to reports from the US, Culkin recently met with Disney executives to pitch a new Home Alone project centred around an older Kevin McCallister, while details remain under wraps the reported meeting has reignited speculation that the actor could reprise the role that made him a global star.
The concept isn’t entirely new, during a 35th anniversary screening of Home Alone last year, Culkin discussed an idea involving an adult Kevin raising a son of his own (per TMZ).
In his version, Kevin becomes the parent left locked outside the family home after his emotionally neglected child turns the tables and fills the house with traps, it’s a role reversal that mirrors the original film while giving the story a modern twist.
Disney are enthusiastic
Reports suggest Disney was enthusiastic about the pitch, but before excitement could spiral too far, Culkin addressed the rumours himself after they spread online.
Responding to speculation on social media, he wrote: “Y’all are out of your mind. My favorite part of HA is when I’m watching it with my kiddos.”
His comments don’t necessarily deny that conversations have taken place, they suggest fans may be reading too much into what remains an early discussion rather than a confirmed production.
Culkin has largely stepped away from leading Hollywood roles in recent decades, though he has occasionally revisited Kevin McCallister, he reprised the character in 2018 in a popular Google Assistant commercial imagining what Kevin’s life might look like as an adult.
Disney previously attempted to revive the franchise with the 2021 reboot Home Sweet Home Alone, but that film failed to capture the same affection as the original classics.
Whether Culkin’s latest idea ever reaches cinemas remains to be seen, but the prospect of the original Kevin McCallister returning has already struck a nostalgic chord with fans, for now though there’s no official confirmation that a new Home Alone film is moving forward.
