Nearly nine years after the loss of Chester Bennington changed the future of Linkin Park forever, the iconic rock outfit is ready to tell the story of how they found their way back.
The band has announced Unshatter, a brand new documentary directed by longtime member Joe Hahn, which will hit cinemas worldwide from September 30th (per Billboard).
The film follows Linkin Park‘s journey through their seven year hiatus, documenting the uncertain road that eventually led to their return, the release of 2024’s From Zero, and their live performance in São Paulo, Brazil.
Rather than offering a polished retrospective, Unshatter captures the band’s comeback as it happened.
Featuring behind the scenes footage, live performances, archival material and fresh interviews, the documentary explores the difficult decisions, creative evolution and emotional weight of rebuilding one of the world’s biggest rock bands following Bennington’s passing in 2017.
The film also documents the arrival of vocalist Emily Armstrong and drummer Colin Brittain, whose addition marked the beginning of Linkin Park’s new chapter.

Bigger than originally planned
Director Joe Hahn says the documentary grew into something far bigger than originally planned:
“What started as filming one show slowly became something much bigger. We kept realizing there was a story unfolding in real time as we figured out what the future of Linkin Park would look like.”
Instead of relying on hindsight, Hahn wanted audiences to experience the uncertainty alongside the band, capturing the conversations, challenges and breakthroughs exactly as they unfolded. As both filmmaker and band member, he says authenticity became the driving force behind the project.
The documentary also serves as a tribute to the fans who stood by Linkin Park through one of the most difficult periods in the band’s history, while offering newer audiences an inside look at how the group rediscovered its creative identity.
Ahead of the film’s theatrical release, Linkin Park will also release the Unshatter Film Soundtrack (Live in São Paulo) on September 25th. The live collection spans the band’s catalogue and includes performances beyond those featured in the documentary.
