Former Arch Enemy vocalist Alissa White-Gluz has opened up about juggling three major projects at once, revealing that her newest role with DragonForce is allowing her to explore a vocal style she’s wanted to develop for years.
Speaking with Magenta TV during Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival, White-Gluz discussed the balancing act between her upcoming solo album Alissa, her newly formed band Blue Medusa, and becoming the first-ever frontwoman for British power metal legends DragonForce.
Despite having multiple projects underway, the Canadian singer says each fulfils a different creative purpose (per Blabbermouth).
“Yeah, so I think for a lot of artists, we have a creative force in us that we need to get out, and it’s fun to do it across multiple things.”
While her solo material reflects her personal artistic vision, White-Gluz made it clear that Blue Medusa remains her biggest priority.
“And then BLUE MEDUSA is my main passion and my main focus. That’s where I’m putting all of my energy and all of my attention into every detail, and it’s really the band that I’ve just always wanted to have.”

She also praised DragonForce, calling the opportunity to perform alongside the band both exciting and rewarding.
Discussing the differences between the two bands, White-Gluz explained that Blue Medusa represents her musical identity, while DragonForce offers an entirely different performance experience.
“BLUE MEDUSA is really — it’s me. That is the music I love. That is who I am.”
She added that DragonForce’s fast paced, high energy catalogue has pushed her as a vocalist in unexpected ways.
“And I feel like I’m able to express a side of my voice that I’ve been wanting to express for a while.”
White-Gluz revealed that she’s a longtime fan of musical theatre and believes performing DragonForce’s technically demanding songs allows her to tap into that influence.
“For example, I’m a huge fan of musical theater, and so when I’m singing with DRAGONFORCE, I almost feel like I’m flexing my musical theater voice a little bit… it’s something that I really want to improve at, and I want to be able to practice. And now I have a reason to.”
Blue Medusa has already released the singles Checkmate and Flying Monkey, while White-Gluz continues work on her solo album following her departure from Arch Enemy late last year. DragonForce officially debuted White-Gluz as their live vocalist at Welcome To Rockville in Florida earlier this year, marking a new chapter for both the singer and the band.
