KING 810 are heading back into the dark.
Flint, Michigan’ outfit KING 810 have announced their new album ‘La Grande Mort or Silence of God’, arriving November 27th, alongside the release of new single ‘Love Kills’.
The record follows a prolific stretch for KING 810, marking their fourth full-length collection of original material in just 18 months.
More importantly, its title deliberately reaches back to 2016’s ‘La Petite Mort or a Conversation with God’, arriving a decade after the record that remains a defining piece of the band’s catalogue.
Rather than attempting to recreate it, ‘La Grande Mort or Silence of God’ appears set to drag those ideas somewhere new.
KING 810 explore devotion on ‘Love Kills’
First taste ‘Love Kills’ pairs a filthy, low-slung riff with David K Gunn’s spoken delivery before breaking open into distortion, screams and a grinding groove.
Lyrically, Gunn turns towards love at its most obsessive and destructive.
‘This song is about the most dangerous game us animals play — love. ‘Love Kills’ reveals there is no ceremonial difference between weddings and funerals. There’s a type of devotion that doesn’t care whether the other person is alive to receive it. That’s what this song is — love that outlives the need for consent from the ultimate authority: Death.’

The band recorded the album in Flint with longtime producer Josh Schroeder, whose credits include Lorna Shore. Gunn is joined by bassist Eugene Gill, drummer John Paul Vega and guitarist Bryce Ballinger, with the record continuing KING 810’s habit of pulling metal apart and rebuilding it with elements of hip-hop, electronics, psychedelia and alternative music.
‘La Grande Mort or Silence of God’ follows the earlier arrival of ‘Hungry Gods’, which offered the first indication of where KING 810 were heading next.
The timing also carries some weight. On October 30th, KING 810 will perform ‘La Petite Mort or a Conversation with God’ in full for the first time at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan, marking its tenth anniversary on Devil’s Night.
Ten years after that record opened one particularly bleak chapter, KING 810 clearly aren’t interested in simply looking backwards. ‘La Grande Mort or Silence of God’ is positioned as the next mutation.
