Anberlin have officially opened the next chapter of the band, announcing their ninth studio album ‘Currency’, due Friday, November 11th via Equal Vision/Civilians.
The record marks Anberlin’s first full-length album with Matty Mullins as lead vocalist, following his introduction to the band’s recorded output on two tracks from 2024’s ‘Vega’.
Alongside the announcement, Anberlin have released new single ‘Neverafter’, giving the clearest indication yet of what this version of the band sounds like when Mullins is given an entire record to make his mark.

Produced by Anberlin alongside Memphis May Fire’s Kellen McGregor, ‘Currency’ runs for 11 tracks and draws from material that had previously remained unfinished while reshaping it around the band’s current line-up.
For a group approaching 25 years together, it is less a clean break than a deliberate recalibration.
Anberlin Look At What Comes After Everything Falls Apart
According to Mullins, ‘Currency’ is built around the collapse of identity and the ugly process of trying to rebuild afterwards.
‘The overall theme of CURRENCY is what happens after everything you built your identity on falls apart. It’s a journey through heartbreak, loss, addiction, shame, and the lies we tell ourselves. Instead of staying in the wreckage, it’s about finding the strength to face the truth, let go of what was killing you, and become someone new. I believe that healing doesn’t begin when the pain ends, it begins when you finally stop running from it.’
That gives Anberlin plenty of emotional ground to work with, particularly at a point where the band itself is navigating one of the largest personnel shifts in its history.
Rather than treating Mullins’ arrival like an exercise in preserving what came before, ‘Currency’ appears designed to let the new configuration breathe.
Among the songs confirmed for the album are ‘Highstakes’ and ‘Trenches’, the latter featuring Switchfoot, alongside lead single ‘Neverafter’.
The music video for ‘Neverafter’ was directed by Anberlin drummer Nathan Young and Jacob Moniz.
‘Currency’ arrives Friday, November 11th through Equal Vision/Civilians, while ‘Neverafter’ is out now.
