Haywire had their San Diego show pulled out from under them on Friday night.
Their solution was about as hardcore as it gets, find a patch of concrete beside a freeway and play the damn thing anyway (per The PRP).
Massachusetts hardcore crew Haywire turned a cancelled San Diego show into an impromptu outdoor set last Friday (August 21st), after their planned appearance at Corazon Del Barrio was unable to go ahead.
Rather than pack up and call it a night, the band relocated and staged a guerilla show near a San Diego freeway, drawing fans and, perhaps inevitably, the attention of local authorities.
Footage from the night shows exactly the sort of uncontrolled environment you’d expect when a hardcore show suddenly gets stripped of four walls and dumped outside.
Police Blamed For Venue Shutdown
During the makeshift set, vocalist Austin Sparkman addressed what had happened earlier that day, claiming San Diego police were responsible for the original venue being shut down.
‘I wanna make something clear, to my knowledge It was not the venue that fucked us — it was the police department of San Diego. They sent a gang task force to close up Del Barrio today, and they cited the place, they condemned it. So now they have to get inspections by the the fucking fire marshal. Because they see what happens when Dead City plays. But what a bunch of f**king idiots, cause look at what we did. They just made us do what were gonna do anyway.’
The circumstances surrounding the venue action have not been independently confirmed by BLUNT, but the result was fairly obvious: cancelling the indoor show didn’t stop Haywire from playing.
If anything, it produced a scene far messier than the one originally scheduled.
New Album Coming
The footage arrives only days after Haywire announced their signing to Roadrunner Records and revealed their second full length, ‘I Don’t Wanna Say Goodbye’, due October 2nd.
Lead single ‘Interstate Love Affair’ (below) is already out, with the album following 2024 debut ‘Conditioned for Demolition’ and last years EP ‘For Better or for Worse’.
Australian fans have already had their own complicated year with Haywire, the band toured here supporting Poison The Well before planning a second Australian visit for August, which was ultimately postponed due to visa issues.
No replacement Australian dates have been announced yet.
For now, Haywire are determined to keep moving regardless of what gets put in front of them. Apparently, even losing the venue isn’t enough to kill the show.
