Amon Amarth Ride Into The Wild West With New Single ‘Eight Legs Of Thunder’

Amon Amarth have released ‘Eight Legs of Thunder’, the final preview of their new album ‘The Allfather Awakens’, due October 2nd via Metal Blade Records.

Naturally, the Swedish metal veterans have celebrated an eight-legged horse from Norse mythology by heading straight for the American Wild West.

Inspired by Sleipnir, Oden’s legendary eight-legged steed, ‘Eight Legs of Thunder’ is built around the sort of charging guitar work Amon Amarth have spent decades turning into their own particular form of heavy metal warfare.

Its accompanying video takes considerably more liberties with the source material, throwing cowboys, pickup trucks and dusty American roads into the equation before Sleipnir emerges during a surreal dream sequence.

‘With ‘Eight Legs Of Thunder’, together with the band, we wanted to break the traditional metal music video mold once again,’ director Dariusz Szermanowicz explains.

‘We fused the raw, dusty vibe of a modern western with the epic, dark mythology of Oden’s eight-legged steed. It’s a high-octane, cinematic ride packed with cowboy tension, raw action, and a touch of dark humor. We didn’t just want to make a music video—we wanted to deliver a visual knockout.’

The single follows ‘Gjallarhorn’ and the considerably more unexpected ‘Upphaf’, which marked Amon Amarth’s first excursion into acoustic territory.

Those different directions offer some indication of what the band are playing with on ‘The Allfather Awakens’. The ten track record isn’t being positioned as a concept album, but Oden remains its connective tissue, with stories built around conflict, sacrifice and Norse history and mythology.

Amon Amarth also changed their process this time around, beginning to write while touring and recording the album across two separate sessions with producer Jacob Hansen in Denmark.

There was a sonic adjustment in the guitar department as well. The band moved away from the 5150 amps of more recent material and returned to Marshalls, giving ‘The Allfather Awakens’ a slightly less modern foundation.

More than three decades into Amon Amarth’s existence, reinvention was never going to mean ditching the longships and Norse mythology altogether. Instead, ‘Eight Legs of Thunder’ suggests they’re finding stranger places to put them.

Apparently, that now includes cowboys.
