Rose Tattoo have revealed that frontman Gary ‘Angry’ Anderson suffered a cardiac arrest and remains in hospital receiving treatment, weeks after a medical issue forced the Australian rock veterans to cancel the remainder of their European tour.
The band shared the update today, August 31st, thanking fans for the flood of messages sent to Anderson and his family (per Tonedeaf).
‘On behalf of Angry and his family, we would like to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming messages of support, love and kind words,’ Rose Tattoo said.
‘Your thoughts, prayers and well wishes mean more to Angry and his family than we can express.
‘We would like to let everyone know that Angry suffered a cardiac arrest and is currently in hospital receiving treatment and the care he needs.’
The band have requested privacy while Anderson continues his recovery.
‘At this time, we kindly ask that you please respect the privacy of Angry and his family as they focus on Angry, his treatment and his recovery.’
Rose Tattoo had already cancelled the remaining dates of their 2026 European tour earlier this month after confirming Anderson had been hospitalised due to what was then described only as a ‘medical issue’.
The band said at the time they were ‘absolutely devastated’ that the tour could not continue.
Rose Tattoo’s farewell year remains uncertain
The health scare arrives during what was intended to be Rose Tattoo’s final year on the road after more than five decades of sweat-soaked Australian rock’n’roll.
Their One Last Ride farewell campaign has been positioned as a final celebration between the band and generations of fans.
When announcing the farewell, Anderson said:
‘Rose Tattoo has always been about our brothers & sisters. The fans have carried us through every decade, every tour and every challenge. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to do what we love for so long and now it’s time to celebrate that journey together one last time.’
Rose Tattoo are currently scheduled to return to Australia for farewell performances in September, followed by appearances on the Red Hot Summer Tour with Suzi Quatro in November.
At this stage, no further announcement has been made regarding those dates, the immediate focus is instead firmly on Anderson’s health.
‘We are incredibly grateful for the love and support that has already been shown. It is comforting to know just how many people are thinking of Angry and wishing him strength in his recovery.’
