Brian Burkheiser’s Scatterbrain Releases New Single ‘Addicted To The Habit’

Share

Former I Prevail vocalist Brian Burkheiser is continuing to build out his new project Scatterbrain, returning today with new single ‘Addicted To The Habit’.

Released just hours ago (September 25th) through Scatterbrain Records, the track arrives alongside an official music video and marks the latest piece of original material from Burkheiser since launching the project following his departure from I Prevail.

‘Addicted To The Habit’ finds Burkheiser confronting cycles of distraction, self-doubt and obsessive behaviour, particularly the ways temporary dopamine hits can be used to keep more difficult feelings at bay.

Mental health awareness

It’s territory that fits naturally within the wider idea behind Scatterbrain. Burkheiser’s official website describes the project as being driven by “raw emotion, reinvention, and mental-health awareness”, with rock, hip-hop and pop all feeding into its sound.

Burkheiser co-wrote ‘Addicted To The Habit’ with Erik Ron, who also produced the track. Tyler Smyth handled mixing and mastering.

The accompanying video was written by Burkheiser alongside Kurt Mackey and Alan Ledford. Mackey directed and edited the clip, with Ledford serving as director of photography.

The single continues a run of releases that has established Scatterbrain as Burkheiser’s primary creative outlet. After initially launching with a cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ (below) last December, he released original track ‘Phases’ in February, followed by ‘Fast Lane’ in March and ‘Bitter’ in July.

Burkheiser’s former band I Prevail announced his departure last May after more than a decade together. With Scatterbrain, the vocalist has positioned himself outside the boundaries of his previous role, with the project allowing him to move between heavier music and pop and hip-hop influences.

‘Addicted To The Habit’ is out now.
