Power Trip Release First New Music Since Riley Gale’s Death, Confirm 2027 Album

Power Trip have released their first songs with Seth Gilmore, opening a new chapter after Riley Gale’s death and setting a 2027 album window.

Power Trip have released ‘Precinct 3’ and ‘Scavenger’, their first new music since vocalist Riley Gale died in August 2020. The double single also brings a release window for the Texas crossover thrash band’s next album: northern spring 2027.

Released on 9 October through Blue Grape Music, the tracks feature current vocalist Seth Gilmore, known for his work with Skourge and Fugitive. They mark the first studio releases from the band’s current line-up, taking their return beyond the live stage.

According to the release announcement reproduced by This Day In Metal, Power Trip have spent more than a year working in the studio. The songs preview the forthcoming album, which will follow 2017’s Nightmare Logic.

Gale’s influence remains part of that process. The announcement describes ‘Precinct 3’ as an examination of unchecked authority, with guitarist Blake Ibanez explaining how the band approached its subject.

“When we were writing this, we wondered what Riley would have wanted to write about,” Ibanez said.

Gilmore takes on people who profit from someone else’s work in ‘Scavenger’, giving the double single another target beyond institutional power.

Both tracks were recorded at Empire Sound in Carrollton, Texas, produced by Jacob Hansen and co-produced by Ibanez. ‘Precinct 3’ also arrives with an official video directed by Eric Richter.

There’s an important distinction in the release chronology: these are Power Trip’s first songs since Gale’s death, rather than their first new material since Nightmare Logic. The band’s official Bandcamp page confirms that ‘Hornet’s Nest’ originally debuted through Adult Swim in June 2018.

Australian fans saw the returning band at Hobart’s Odeon on 18 June, an Australian exclusive for Dark Mofo. Ahead of that visit, Ibanez told Wall Of Sound the album combined older writing with new material and that “most of it is recorded”.

Power Trip’s return now has more than a setlist. With two new songs out and an album slated for 2027, the band are writing their next chapter.
