Geordie Greep’s US Shows Cancelled Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegation, Which He Denies

Five US dates have been reported cancelled after the former Black Midi frontman denied an allegation of rape on stage in Vancouver.

Five US shows on Geordie Greep’s North American tour have been reported cancelled amid a sexual misconduct allegation, which the former Black Midi frontman publicly denied at his Vancouver concert.

NME reported on 11 October that the affected dates were Boise on 9 October, Salt Lake City on 10 October, Boulder on 12 October, Denver on 13 October and Omaha on 14 October. Pitchfork also lists those five cities, describing shows marked cancelled or removed from venue websites.

At the time of Pitchfork’s report, Greep had not released a separate statement about the cancellations. BLUNT has contacted Greep’s representatives for comment on the cancellations and any further response to the allegation but had not received a response at the time of publication.

BLUNT independently verified the Boise and Boulder cancellations through notices published by promoters Duck Club and Z2 Entertainment. Z2 says online ticket purchases for the Boulder show will be refunded automatically within seven to 14 business days.

According to NME, an attendee distributed flyers accusing Greep of rape at his 8 October show at The Pearl in Vancouver, before he addressed the audience without his backing band. The allegation has not been independently verified by BLUNT.

Addressing the audience in Vancouver, Greep denied the allegation, saying, “I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist. It’s not how that went down.”

He described being at a house party after a night out, saying he had misread a situation with another person, made an advance and quickly apologised. He said he had made someone feel uncomfortable without meaning to. This is Greep’s account of the encounter; it has not been independently established.

Greep also told the audience he had not wanted to force his backing musicians to perform in the circumstances. He said it was fine if attendees wanted a refund or to leave, and offered to continue the show alone.

The cancellations follow Greep’s Australian tour in July and August, which included Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Perth dates supporting his debut solo album, The New Sound.

The sources examined do not establish who initiated each cancellation. First Fleet Concerts still advertised his 15 October performance at Wooly’s in Des Moines when checked on 12 October. Direct confirmation that the show will proceed remains outstanding.
