The Swedish prog metal band received distressing family news at the airport, with their Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane shows now postponed.
Soen have postponed their Australian tour following a family emergency, announcing the change on Thursday, 15 October, ahead of the scheduled Melbourne opener on Friday, 16 October.
IIn a statement published on promoter ThePhoenix.au’s tour page, the band said the news reached them as they were preparing to fly to Australia.
“While we were at the airport checking in on our way to Australia we received some terrible family news,” Soen said.
The band apologised to fans, the promoter and venues, and asked for patience while the shows are rescheduled. The promoter’s postponement notice identifies drummer Martin Lopez and his family as those affected. Further details of the emergency have not been disclosed.
The postponed performances are:
- Friday, 16 October: 170 Russell, Melbourne
- Saturday, 17 October: Manning Bar, Sydney
- Monday, 19 October: Crowbar, Brisbane
Promoter ThePhoenix.au says it hopes to have new dates in place within the next two weeks. Replacement dates have not been announced, and that timeframe should not be read as confirmation that the shows will take place within a fortnight.
Moshtix has marked both the Melbourne and Sydney shows as postponed. The Sydney listing specifically directs ticket holders to check their emails for further information.
The public notices reviewed do not confirm whether existing tickets will remain valid or outline refund arrangements for fans unable to attend the replacement dates.
The run was set to be Soen’s first Australian tour. In an interview with No Barriers ahead of the visit, vocalist Joel Ekelöf said the band had been talking about coming to Australia for years.
Australian progressive instrumental trio The Omnific were scheduled to support, with a set celebrating their tenth anniversary. Their involvement in the rescheduled shows remains unconfirmed.
For ticket holders, the next step is to check their booking emails and follow their ticket provider and ThePhoenix.au for replacement dates and ticket arrangements before making further travel plans.
