Four bands and four solo artists will score a spot on the festival’s HOTHOUSE Stage, with video auditions closing 5pm ACST 7 December.
South Australia’s next wave of heavy and alternative musicians has a festival slot to chase. Froth & Fury has opened applications for its New Breed program, giving young local artists a chance to perform at the festival on 30 January 2027.
First flagged in BLUNT’s July festival coverage, New Breed will give four bands and four solo artists a place on its dedicated HOTHOUSE Stage. Entries close at 5pm ACST on Monday, 7 December 2026.
Getting an audition together needn’t involve booking a studio. The festival is asking for a one-to-two-minute performance video, and a phone recording is welcome. Originals and covers are both accepted, as are vocal and instrumental performances. Under the entry terms, recording quality won’t count towards the assessment.
Applicants must ordinarily live in South Australia, be at least 10 and under 18 on 30 January 2027, and have parent or guardian consent. Every performing band member must meet those requirements.
Selected bands will play two songs and soloists one, with an industry panel choosing a winning act in each category. Participants will also get experience working with festival production staff, from backline set-up to sound requirements.
“It’s about giving young musicians the chance to get on stage, play in front of a crowd, potentially meet other artists and get a real taste of what it’s all about,” Froth & Fury co-director Jason North said in the announcement. “That kind of experience at a young age is massive for building confidence and growing as a musician.”
The winning band will receive a $1,000 Billy Hyde voucher and a professional recording through Northern Sound System. The prize also includes a 10-week advanced training course with the Australian Rock & Metal Institute. The winning solo artist receives a $500 Billy Hyde voucher, while all finalists receive 2028 festival tickets and commemorative shirts.
New Breed is delivered with the Music Development Office (South Australia), Northern Sound System, Carclew and ARMI.
