Parkway Drive are about to make history. The Byron Bay heavyweights have announced a one-off performance at the Sydney Opera House on June 9.
Performing alongside a full symphonic orchestra, the show promises to be the Parkway Drive’s most ambitious live show to date. The special event will be filmed for their upcoming documentary and live album, Home. The live album celebrates two decades of the band’s rise from local metalcore heroes to global festival headliners.
Frontman Winston McCall called the show a celebration of their roots, saying, “For over two decades, we have carried our home in our hearts as we roamed around the world. Australia has made us; from the dirt to the sky, it is who we are. So, it is with open arms that we present to you this iconic event: Parkway Drive as you have never seen or heard it, with a full symphonic orchestra, performed at the most iconic building in the land—the Sydney Opera House. One night, one show, one band.”
This Opera House performance marks another major milestone in Parkway Drive’s 20-year career. The band have quite literally evolved from underground metalcore into one of the world’s most dominant heavy bands. With six ARIA Gold-certified albums and three number-one ARIA debuts, the band have cemented their status as one of Australia’s biggest musical exports.
From the early days of Killing With a Smile and Horizons, to the genre-pushing Darker Still, Parkway Drive have redefined modern heavy music. Their live show has always been a spectacle, but this time, they’re taking things to a whole new level.
With a full orchestra, a Welcome to Country by Matthew Doyle of the Gadigal people, and a venue that rarely sees metal take centre stage, this is set to be a landmark moment. Not just for Parkway Drive either, but for Australian heavy music as a whole.
